The albumn Haunted by Poe is one of my favorite albumns to experience, especially when you consider the context behind it. Poe is a singer who was briefly active from '95 to '01, only putting out two albumns at the time. She's been more active lately, you may have heard of her work on the Alan Wake II soundtrack. Haunted, the second of the albumns, is very strongly themed around the book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (one of my favorite books! I have a blog post about it here). The book, in short, is about a house that is bigger on the inside than the outside. That is the very short story of course, and a more indepth look at it would be in that blog post. Either way, the music is clearly themed around the plot, content and themes of the book, with direct allusions to various elements (johnny, the 5 and 1/2 minute hallway iykyk) from the book. The song Haunted particularly fits the vibe that the house in the book gives, with echoey sounds fitting the winding, expanding halls of the house. Being able to make these direct connections between the song and the book is so cathartic and feels like a moment of discovery or enlightenment which would be lost on someone who hasn't read the book.
Its not critical to read the book to enjoy the albumn, of course. Some songs are much more esoteric or unnatural, however there are many which are certified bangers in their own right.
